Growing up in Bandung, with Sundanese culture i wasn’t very well connected with the ocean.
My family always expected me to be a doctor an architect, or a lawyer. None of my family work in Marine biology or any conservation field. When I choose Marine Science as a major in university the first thing that my parents asked me is what would i become and what career can i have.
Whenever I go diving in the ocean to do some study or research, my parent always worried because I’m a girl and they worry about my safety. Coral catch helps people and my family understand that even though I’m a girl, I can also go to the ocean, work on the fields and do the things that I love. Coral catch has showed me the power of women working together and support each other. It really inspired me to continue what I’ve been doing and always try to make positive impact for the ocean.

Coral Catch impact me in so many things, from a personal improvement such as the way of thinking, taught us about self love, how to inspire people around, all the way up until the very practical lessons like running the coral monitoring project, certified us as a scientific diver, etc. Coral Catch has played a big role in making me who I am today.

How Coral Catch impacted my journey
I learned a lot of things about conservation field in Coral Catch, from how things are in the actual field, the threats that reefs faces, to mitigation and what we can do about it. This journey also become a milestone for my career in marine conservation, as it added more experience to my career. Though I’ve graduated in 2021, I keep getting more from Coral Catch as I get invited as a speaker for a couple of times and I get to learn again and share the knowledge with new batches. How Coral Catch impacted my journey
I joined the Coral Catch Superwoman batch 1, which taught me a lot of new things and fulfill my goals through an amazing experience. During my program with Coral Catch for about 9 weeks and extended for another 3 weeks volunteer as a research assistant, I learned many things related to coral reef restoration, including empower Indonesian women to do more conservation actions as a highlight of this program. Within my stays, I built my confidence in diving, leading and public speaking, and it was really a change life for me. Coral Catch is a great program for local women like me who is seeking of experience in marine conservation practical, that would be very helpful as a basic foundation to have career in marine field. I came to Indo Ocean Project with marine science education background and field experience from Coral Catch, that is very powerful key to work in this research industry. I’m very delightful and grateful that I achieved my dream career, however my goals in marine research is an endless job in life.

How Coral Catch impacted my journey
Becoming a Coral Catch awardee is the big change and journey in my life. Learning about coral reefs, new skills in the field of scientific diving, learning to build communities based on the marine environment, managing networks, how to speak in public and influence audiences to deliver our vision. All of this has made me a new confident person, especially in inspiring and influencing people around me to do the same things to protect our ocean and earth, even with small changes. Armed with the knowledge I gained while participating in the Coral Catch scholarship program, I do not hesitate to support the activities of various environmental communities, helping the community in carrying out their work programs, including criticizing government regulations that have a negative impact on the environment.
